Academic All-Star Ministry
NZCC Family,
We are proud to have the opportunity to lead the Academic All-Star Ministry for the 2011-2012 academic year. To ensure that all of our students are recognized for their academic excellence please get acquainted with the requirements for Academic All-Stars and progress report/report card submission dates.
Requirements:
The Academic All-Star Ministry is a ministry within New Zion Christian Church that is committed to the academic progress and success of our youth. As a church based ministry we are not only concerned with the academic progress of our youth, but their spiritual development as well. Therefore, all potential Academic All-Stars must be members of New Zion Christian Church who attend 80% of the Sunday services each quarter. Thus, students can only be absent two (2) Sundays during each nine (9) week period. To ensure that your child (ren) receives credit for their attendance, please remember to sign the weekly attendance sheet located in the guest reception area in the foyer. Additional requirements are as follows:
• All Academic All-Stars in grades K-12 must submit progress reports or report cards with all A’s & B’s.
o Please note that a progress or report card that reflects a C in one subject/class although
the student has an overall B average will not be accepted.
• All collegiate Academic All-Stars must submit transcripts with a cumulative grade point
average of 3.0 or higher.
• Elementary and Middle School students will be recognized four times per year.
o The monetary award is $25.00 for A/B elementary and middle school honor
students (S/E for Kindergarten and some 1st grade students).
o The monetary award is $35.00 for straight A elementary middle school honor
students (all E’s for Kindergarten and some 1st grade students).
• Note: Grades for enrichment classes and non-academic classes will not be counted.
• Pre-Kindergarten, Pre-school, and Nursery children are ineligible to participate.
• High School and full-time, traditional (ages 18-22) undergraduate College students will be
recognized twice per year, after the fall and spring semesters (January and June).
o The monetary award is $35.00 for A/B honor high school students.
o The monetary award is $40 for straight A honor high school students.
o The monetary award is $40.00 for college students with a cumulative grade point
average of a 3.0-3.49.
o The monetary award is $45.00 for college students with a cumulative grade point
average of a 3.5 or higher.
• *Monetary awards will be given if funds are available.
• SPECIAL NOTE: All students who are Academic-All Stars for the entire year will be
recognized with a special award at the final ceremony in June. In addition, children will
be honored for other special accomplishments at the final ceremony in June.
Progress Report Submission:
• Academic All-Star presentations will be held on the fourth Sunday after progress reports are
issued for the respective reporting period. Accordingly, the presentations for this year will be
held on the following Sundays:
o October 30, 2011
• Progress Reports to be submitted no later than October 16th
o January 22, 2012
• Progress Reports to be submitted no later than January 15th
o April 22, 2012
• Progress Reports to be submitted no later than April 8th
o June 24, 2012
• Progress Reports to be submitted no later than June 10th
Please submit all progress reports to allstars@newzionchristianchurch.org or give them to Pastors Fred or Denise Arnold no later than the published deadline. Please be advised that in order to print the souvenir booklets and order the trophies we are unable to extend the deadline for any reason. We thank you in advance for complying with the deadlines so that we may serve you in excellence.
Please note that if you do not receive your progress reports in time to meet the stated deadlines we will happily accept a current transcript or current grade report from the parent portal as we truly desire to recognize all of our star achievers!
Award Presentations:
In an effort to make the day special for the students we will present souvenir booklets which list all of the elementary school, middle school, high school, and college All-Stars separately by classification. In addition, each student will receive a copy of the souvenir booklet along with their certificate, monetary award, and trophy. We will culminate the ceremony with light refreshments for all the honorees and their families.
Corporate Sponsorships:
The cost to fund the Academic All-Star program is approximately $5,000 per year. We need financial support to ensure the continuation of the program. Please let us know if your company or any company that you patronize may be willing to sponsor Academic All-Stars. This is an awesome program and we are committed to working towards 100% sponsorship for the 2011-2012 academic year.
